Contrary to recent rumors, Tennessee Volunteers defensive back Boo Carter has not signed a four-year deal with the Alabama Crimson Tide. In fact, Carter has reaffirmed his commitment to the Volunteers by signing a new Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal with Tennessee.
Carter, a standout freshman from Chattanooga’s Bradley Central High School, made significant contributions to Tennessee’s defense during the 2024 season. He recorded 38 tackles, including three for loss, one sack, and an interception. Additionally, Carter showcased his versatility on special teams, returning 12 punts for 138 yards.
Speculation about Carter’s potential transfer emerged recently, but he dispelled these rumors by announcing his return to Tennessee for the 2025 season. He shared a graphic on social media with the phrase “Home sweet home, to me,” a nod to the Volunteers’ fight song, “Rocky Top.” This announcement was accompanied by branding from the Volunteer Club, Tennessee’s prominent NIL collective, indicating that a new NIL agreement played a role in his decision to stay.
Carter’s decision to remain with the Volunteers is a significant boost for Tennessee’s defense. His performance earned him a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team at two positions: defensive back and return specialist.
