Alabama linebacker makes it official, announces return for 2025

Alabama linebacker Justin Jefferson has officially announced his return to the Crimson Tide for the 2025 season. Benefiting from a recent NCAA waiver granting former junior college players an additional year of eligibility, Jefferson shared his decision on Saturday, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to continue his collegiate career at Alabama.

Jefferson, who transferred to Alabama in 2023 after two years in junior college, emerged as a key contributor in the 2024 season. He recorded 60 tackles, including 7.0 for loss, and 2.0 sacks, showcasing his defensive prowess. His return is particularly significant following the departure of fellow linebacker Jihaad Campbell, who declared for the NFL Draft after leading the team in tackles, tackles for loss, and sacks in 2024.

In addition to Jefferson’s return, Alabama has bolstered its linebacker corps by adding Nikhai Hill-Green, a transfer from Colorado. Hill-Green, who earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2024, brings experience and talent to the position.

Jefferson’s decision to utilize the extra year of eligibility reflects his commitment to the program and his desire to further develop his skills under Alabama’s coaching staff. His return, combined with the addition of Hill-Green, positions the Crimson Tide’s defense for a strong performance in the upcoming season.

As Alabama continues to navigate roster changes, including NFL Draft declarations and transfer portal movements, Jefferson’s leadership and experience will be invaluable. His presence is expected to provide stability and mentorship to younger players, contributing to the team’s overall defensive strategy in 2025.
