See why:Leafs Weigh Risks of Trading Marner Ahead of Potential Career-Best Season…

Mitch Marner is heading into the final year of his contract, and it’s common to see players deliver career-best performances before becoming unrestricted free agents.

Examples include former Leafs player Nazem Kadri and more recently, Sam Reinhart.

Another notable case is William Nylander, who achieved a career-high 98 points in his contract year, leading to an 8-year extension with the team.

There’s no reason Marner can’t do the same.

Former Leafs players have often found significant success after leaving Toronto, such as Kadri, Zach Hyman, Frederick Andersen, and Phil Kessel.

Trading a quality player is always risky, but trading a superstar like Mitch Marner is especially so for many reasons.

If the Leafs decide to trade him, they risk not getting equal value in return and the possibility that Marner could have his best season yet with a new team in his contract year.
