Former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and Ring of Honor member Boomer Esiason will not return to his role on CBS Sports’ pregame show, The NFL Today.The network announced the decision on Monday, with Esiason set to depart the show alongside longtime analyst Phil Simms.Esiason, a former quarterback of the Bengals for 10 seasons, was the longest-tenured analyst on The NFL Today show.”Esiason’s analysis, experience and knowledge, coupled with his quick wit and distinct perspective, made him one of the best studio analysts for more than two decades,” a release from Paramount Express said.The contracts of Simms and Esiason expired after the Super Bowl, according to the Associated Press.The AP also reported Monday that former NFL quarterback Matt Ryan will join the show as a studio analyst, joining James Brown, Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher and JJ Watt.Esiason was a second-round pick of the Bengals in 1984 and played the first 10 years of his 14-year career in Cincinnati.The New York native was named to four Pro Bowls and was named the 1988 NFL MVP, helping lead the Bengals to their second-ever Super Bowl appearance.In 1988, Esiason threw for 3,525 yards and 28 touchdowns while completing 56.7% of his passes.Esiason ranks third in Bengals history in passing yards (27,149), passing touchdowns (187), passing attempts (3,564) and fourth in completions (2,015).Last September, Esiason was inducted into the Bengals’ Ring of Honor, alongside wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.
