Tennessee Football Recruiting: Will Josh Heupel have any surprises on National Signing Day?

The Tennessee Vols’ top remaining 2025 recruiting target is five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr.

Sanders, 6-foot-6/270 lbs from Charlotte, NC, is rated as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.

Clemson is viewed as the favorite for Sanders with Georgia and Ohio State running close behind.

The Vols, however, according to On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong are “very much in it” for Sanders.

Tennessee Volunteers National Signing Day Update | Josh Heupel and UT Football Secure Signees

On3 recruiting expert Chad Simmons agrees with Wiltfong’s take.

“The simple answer is yes. They’re very much in the mix. Tennessee is right there,” said Simmons when discussing the Vols’ pursuit of Sanders.

Sanders visited Tennessee this past weekend. And he’ll return to Knoxville for the Orange and White game on Saturday before taking an official visit to UT later this summer.

For now, it’s probably safe to assume that there isn’t an actual leader in this battle, even though there’s been speculation that Clemson is out in front. It appears that Sanders is doing his due diligence and keeping an open mind

out the red carpet for Sanders. This is a battle that could go all the way to signing day (even if Sanders commits to a program well before signing day).

Offseason decision by Josh Heupel could lead to a championship for the Tennessee Vols
