NFL journalist Erin Andrews recounted an incident involving a Tampa Bay Buccaneers player that left her in tears early in her career.
Andrews, an experienced sideline reporter for Fox, disclosed that during her early days, a Buccaneers player was extremely rude to her.
During a podcast with Charissa Thompson on the ‘Calm Down’ podcast, Andrews shared this anecdote, leaving Thompson astounded.
Andrews’ Experience:
Responding to a listener’s question about crying at work, Andrews revealed, “Yeah, this happened to me” when she was 19 or 20 years old.
She recounted working freelance for an Orlando station and needing soundbites from the Buccaneers locker room. A specific player’s behavior was particularly unpleasant towards her.
“He physically turned his back on me in the midst of his media scrum. He also instructed me to go back, rehearse my question, and return when I was prepared. I was mortified.
“I was 19 or 20 years old. I had rehearsed. I did stumble a bit. He noticed. He knew I was inexperienced.
“Instantly, tears welled up, and two players, Derrick Brooks and John Lynch, noticed, pulled me aside, and asked, ‘What do you need?’ – Absolute kindness!”
Thompson expressed shock at Andrews’ story.
While Andrews chose not to reveal the player’s identity, Thompson commended Brooks and Lynch for their kindness.
